In-Depth Information
( 707-895-2333; www.philoapplefarm.com ; 18501 Greenwood Rd, Philo; r Mon-Thu $200, Fri-Sun
$275)
Set within the orchard , guests of Philo's bucolic apple farm choose from four exquisite
cottages, each built with reclaimed materials. With bright, airy spaces, polished plank
floors, simple furnishings and views of the surrounding trees, each one is an absolute
dream.
Red Door cottage is a favorite because of the bathroom - you can soak in the slipper
tub, or shower on the private deck under the open sky. The cottages often get booked with
participants of the farm's cooking classes, so book well in advance. For a swim, the Nav-
arro River is within walking distance.

Decked out in a contemporary American-country style with sea-grass flooring, pastel col-
ors and fine linens that would make Martha Stewart proud, this historic hotel's rooms are
safe for urbanites who refuse to abandon style just because they've gone to the country.
The Madrones HOTEL
( www.themadrones.com ; 9000 Hwy 28, Philo; r $160-325; )
Tucked off the back of the Madrones Mediterranean-inspired complex that includes a res-
taurant and the wonderful Bink Wines tasting room , the spacious 'guest quarters' here are
as modern-country-luxe, with a tinge of Tuscany, as you'd hope they'd be.
Eating
Boonville restaurants seem to open and close as they please, so expect hours to vary based
on season and whimsy. There are several places along Hwy 128 which can supply a picnic
with fancy local cheese and fresh bread.
Paysenne ICE CREAM
