In-Depth Information
Sonoma Coast State Beach
Stretching 17 miles north from Bodega Head to Vista Trail, the glorious Sonoma Coast
State Beach ( 707-875-3483) is actually a series of beaches separated by several beauti-
ful rocky headlands. Some beaches are tiny, hidden in little coves, while others stretch far
and wide. Most of the beaches are connected by vista-studded coastal hiking trails that
wind along the bluffs. Exploring this area makes an excellent day-long adventure, so bring
a picnic. Be advised however: the surf is often too treacherous to wade, so keep an eye on
children. While this system of beaches and parks has some camping, you can't just pitch a
tent anywhere; most are for day-use only.
