Eating & Drinking
For the old-fashioned thrill of seafood by the docks there are two options: Tides Wharf &
Restaurant (835 Hwy 1; breakfast $8-22, lunch $13-28, dinner $16-28; 7:30am-9:30pm Mon-
Thu, 7:30am-10pm Fri, 7am-10pm Sat, 7am-9:30pm Sun; ) and Lucas Wharf Restaurant &
Bar (595 Hwy 1; mains $9-28; 11:30am- 9pm Mon-Fri, 11am-10pm Sat; ) . Both have views
and similar menus of clam chowder, fried fish and coleslaw and markets for picnic sup-
plies. Tides boasts a great fish market, though Lucas Wharf feels less like a factory. Don't
be surprised if a bus pulls up outside either of them.
Spud Point Crab Company SEAFOOD
( www.spudpointcrab.com ; 1910 Westshore Rd; dishes $4-11; 9am-5pm; )
In the classic tradition of dockside crab shacks, Spud Point serves salty-sweet crab cock-
tails and real clam chowder, served at picnic tables overlooking the marina. Take Bay Flat
Rd to get here.
The Birds Cafe MEXICAN, AMERICAN
(1407 Hwy 1; meals $6-14; 11:30am-5pm)
The menu consists of just a few things - usually fish tacos, fish 'n' chips, chowder and a
few salads. Barbecued oysters are available seasonally. Order at the bar then take it to an
outdoor picnic table overlooking the harbor. There's beer and wine available. Bliss.
