10am-4:30pm)
Arrowood's hilltop tasting room has postcard-perfect valley views and a bourgeois vibe,
fussy for Sonoma, but the excellent Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon merit the hype.
Tasting fee refunded with two-bottle purchase. Bottles are $25 to $90.
Imagery Estate WINERY
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 707-935-4515; www.imagerywinery.com ; 14335 Sonoma Hwy; tasting
$10-20; 10am-4:30pm; )
Imagery produces lesser-known varietals, biodynamically grown, that you can't buy any-
where else - Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese are standouts. Each bottle sports an artist-de-
signed label, with originals on display in the onsite gallery. Lovely gardens include a
grassy picnic area with horseshoes and bocce. Limited picnic supplies available. Bottles
are $24 to $45.
Benziger WINERY
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 707-935-4527, 888-490-2739; www.benziger.com ; 1883 London Ranch Rd,
Glen Ellen; tasting $15-20, tram tour adult/under 21yr $25/10;
10am-5pm, tram tours
11:30am-3:30pm; )
If you're new to wine, make Benziger your first stop for Sonoma's best crash course in
winemaking. The worthwhile, non-reservable tour includes an open-air tram ride (weather
permitting) through biodynamic vineyards, and a five-wine tasting. Great picnicking, plus
a playground, make it tops for families. The large-production wine's OK (head for the re-
serves); the tour's the thing. Bottles are $15 to $80.
