The museum has 11 galleries showcasing a huge range of works, from ancient Chinese to
cutting-edge contemporary. The complex also houses a bookstore, cafe and sculpture
garden. The museum and the much-loved Pacific Film Archive are scheduled to move to a
new home on Oxford St between Addison and Center Streets in 2016.
Campanile LANDMARK

Officially called Sather Tower, the Campanile was modeled on St Mark's Basilica in
Venice. The 328ft spire offers fine views of the Bay Area, and at the top you can stare up
into the carillon of 61 bells, ranging from the size of a cereal bowl to that of a Volkswagen.
Recitals take place daily at 7:50am, noon and 6pm, with a longer piece performed at 2pm
on Sunday.
Museum of Paleontology MUSEUM

Housed in the ornate Valley Life Sciences Building (and primarily a research facility that's
closed to the public), you can see a number of fossil exhibits in the atrium, including a
Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton.
Bancroft Library LIBRARY

The Bancroft houses, among other gems, the papers of Mark Twain, a copy of
Shakespeare's First Folio and the records of the Donner Party. Its small public exhibits of
historical Californiana include the surprisingly small gold nugget that sparked the 1849
Gold Rush. To register to use the library, you must be 18 years or older (or a high school
graduate) and present two forms of identification (one with a photo). The registration desk
is on your way in.
