Getting There & Around
Busy Hwy 101 heads north from the Golden Gate Bridge ($7 toll when heading back into
San Francisco), spearing through Marin's middle; quiet Hwy 1 winds its way along the
sparsely populated coast. In San Rafael, Sir Francis Drake Blvd cuts across west Marin
from Hwy 101 to the ocean.
Hwy 580 comes in from the East Bay over the Richmond-San Rafael bridge ($5 toll for
westbound traffic) to meet Hwy 101 at Larkspur.
Frequent Marin Airporter ( 415-461-4222; www.marinairporter.com ; fare $20) buses con-
nect from Marin stops to the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) from 4am until
about 10:30pm; SFO-Marin service departs every 30 minutes.
Marin Headlands
The headlands rise majestically out of the water at the north end of the Golden Gate
Bridge, their rugged beauty all the more striking given the fact that they're only a few
miles from San Francisco's urban core. A few forts and bunkers are left over from a cen-
