Musical prayers are answered in a 1914 California Craftsman landmark with heavenly
acoustics. The 40ft roof is raised by shows like Preservation Hall Jazz Band jams with
Nick Lowe, Polyphonic Spree's full-choir ruckus and Radiohead's OK Computer lip-
synched by an all-star drag revue. Many shows are all-ages, except when comedians like
W Kamau Bell test edgy material.

Once a bordello, the rococo Great American Music Hall is still full of surprises: Black
Rebel Motorcycle Club playing acoustic, hardcore bluegrass jams, and burly bouncers
swaying to Vetiver. Arrive early to claim balcony seats with a beer and burger, or find
standing room near the stage.
