Whale sightings aren't a fluke on naturalist-led, ocean-going, weekend boat trips during
mid-October through December migrations. In the off-season, trips run to the Farallon Is-
lands, 27 miles west of San Francisco.

and guards recalling cellhouse life, while creepy twilight tours are led by park rangers;
book tickets at least two weeks ahead.
