On the site of Del Mar's first restaurant, this airy, multilevel Nuevo Mexicano spot is both
restaurant and bar. Specialties on the forward-thinking menu include borracho shrimp
(sautéed in tequila), filet mignon rancheros and honey habanero chicken (in a sweet spicy
glaze), with lots of indoor-outdoor space to enjoy them.

Zel was a longstanding local merchant, and his grandson continues the family tradition of
welcoming locals and visitors, with excellent flatbread pizzas (like chicken with as-
paragus, truffle oil, arugula and avocado), burgers of bison, quinoa or locally raised beef,
and lots of craft beers. Live music Thursday to Sunday.

This quietly chichi and much-loved local landmark serves a diverse lineup of regional
American cuisine: cheese grits to chicken Reubens, sesame salmon on succotash to seared
duck breast with Israeli couscous, plus artisan cocktails, all amid checkerboard linoleum
floors, giant windows and homey wainscoting.
