Central San Diego
Headquarters at Seaport District MALL
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; www.theheadquarters.com ; 789 W Harbor Dr)
San Diego's newest shopping center (opened 2013) is also one of its oldest buildings, the
1939 former police headquarters now turned into some 30 mostly swanky shopping, din-
ing and entertainment options. The old jail cells are still there, for photo ops.
Liberty Station MALL
( www.libertystation.com ; 2640 Historic Decatur Rd)
Between downtown and Point Loma, one-time offices and barracks of the decommis-
sioned Naval Training Center are gradually being converted to shopping and dining ven-
ues. Look for fishing and outdoor gear and top restaurants including Corvette Diner (
619-542-1476; 2965 Historic Decatur Rd; mains $8-11.50;
11:30am-9pm Sun-Thu, to 11pm Fri & Sat;
) and Stone Brewing Co .
Westfield Horton Plaza MALL
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; www.westfield.com/hortonplaza )
At the edge of the Gaslamp, this five-story, seven-block shopping mall features shops big
and small, including Nordstrom, Bebe and Coach. Colorful, toy-town arches and postmod-
ernist balconies make it feel slightly like an MC Escher drawing. Free three-hour parking
with validation.
Seaport Village SHOPPING DISTRICT
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; www.seaportvillage.com ; 10am-10pm; )
Neither seaport nor village, this 14-acre collection of novelty shops and restaurants has a
faux New England theme. It's touristy and twee but good for souvenir shopping and casual
eats.
