El Camino
LOUNGE
We're not sure what it means that this buzzy watering hole has a Dia de los Muertos (Mex-
ican Day of the Dead holiday) theme in the flight path of San Diego Airport - watch
planes land from the outdoor patio - but whatever, dude. The clientele is cool, the design
mod, the drinks strong and the Mexican vittles
fabuloso
.
Waterfront
BAR
San Diego's first liquor license was granted to this place in the 1930s (it was on the water-
front until the harbor was filled and the airport built). A room full of historic bric-a-brac,
big windows looking onto the street and the spirits of those who went before make this a
wonderful place to spend the afternoon or evening.
Bankers Hill & Old Town
Harney Sushi
BAR
If you're staying in Old Town and are done with tequila, Harney Sushi is a sushi bar where
a DJ takes over at night.
Nunu's Cocktail Lounge
COCKTAIL BAR
In Bankers Hill, hipster haven Nunu's Cocktail Lounge started pouring when JFK was
president and still looks the part.
North Park
Two spots nicely encapsulate North Park's hipster vibe.
