Right in Old Town State Park, this creaky, 10-room hotel from 1870 has oodles of charm,
antique furnishings, a possible haunting (!) and a restaurant downstairs for lunch and din-
ner. Don't go expecting modern conveniences like phones and TV, though there's free wi-
fi. Breakfast is a simple affair based on coffee and scones. Free parking.

Overshadowed by the neighboring Hotel del Coronado, the Glorietta is built in and around
a neoclassical 1908 mansion (11 rooms in the mansion, 89 in boxier two-story buildings).
Rooms have handsome furnishings and extras such as triple-sheeted beds and high-end
bath products. Mansion rooms are more expensive and have even more luxe amenities.

This exceedingly cozy Spanish-style former mansion from 1902 has rooms and suites
around an outdoor courtyard of shops, restaurants, pool, hot tub and barbecue grills.
Rooms are charming in an antiquey sort of way, though nothing fancy.

San Diego's iconic hotel provides the essential Coronado experience: over a century of
history, a pool, a full-service spa, shops, restaurants, manicured grounds, a white-sand
beach and an ice-skating rink in winter. Even the basic rooms have luxurious marbled
bathrooms. For a sense of place, book a room in the original hotel, not in the adjacent
1970s building. Parking is $37.
