and the fl ag. The computer system JUSTISE also allows notes to be written
and links to be made to any relevant documents so that process owners and
players as well as stakeholders with access permission can immediately fi nd
and see any changes. Note also that the BCIOD R processes are interde-

pendent (Fig. 9.5) in a manner that has to be captured in the model.
Figure 9.4 refers to Fig. 9.6 which covers some of the processes for ret-
rofi tting. Then Fig. 9.6 refers to Fig. 9.7 which again shows some of the
processes defi ned in MARIUN to monitor both hard and soft system pro-
cesses. These include dealing with unresolved issues, controlling the retrofi t-
ting projects, and monitoring its performance right down to the detailed
level of checking analytical and design processes. Figure 9.8 shows relation-
ships between some detailed processes in designing a group of beams in a
structure.
The choice and design of the processes in all of these models are crucial
to the success of working this way and must be performed by project teams
and appointed process owners. So how would such a model be used on a
project intranet? All participants in a project would have write access to
their 'piece of the action' for which they are responsible and accountable.
This is not onerous, since after an initial input of contact details and other
relatively stable information, the only changes may be values of key per-
formance indicators (KPIs) and/or judgements about the Italian fl ags - but
of course all information can and does change. Project teams would be able
to scan over all of the process fl ags to which they have been given
