The simplified analytical models illustrated above (in Figure 16.23), beyond
their use by designers for preliminary evaluation of barrier performance, could also
be seen as a practical tool for public authorities in order to compare and check, in a
quick and generally conservative manner, the performance of alternative liners. This
can be done before the approval of certain proposals that do not foresee the current
barriers indicated by prescriptive regulation.
