16.7. Equivalence of liner systems
The performances of liner systems are related to the amount of contaminant,
concentration and decay parameters, the aquifer characteristics and its distance from
the bottom of the landfill, and the efficiency of capping and drainage systems.
Nevertheless, an analytical procedure to compare the performance of different
kinds of double-layer barriers, such as those sketched in Figure 16.17, can be
suggested considering steady-state conditions of contaminant flux and taking into
account advection and diffusion phenomena. Considering a typical landfill
