13.7.3. Determination of a protection zone around a pumping well
Here we aim to numerically determine a two-dimensional protection zone
around a pumping well. The area studied is located in Hesbaye in Belgium. The soil
is composed of cretaceous chalk [BIV 93]. Figures 13.9a and 13.9b respectively
show the steady state piezometer data (curves interval = 10 cm) and the water flow
maps during a pumping test with a flow equal to 125 m 3 /h.
A unit pollutant mass is then injected at 20 locations along a square mesh (noted
