4.7.2. Capacity of the various types of structures
The domain of impact energies is generally found to be between the following
values:
v = 10 to 45 m/s;
m = 0.5 to 30 t ;
E = 25 to 30.000kJ.
The velocities observed are practically always located in the indicated range. The
masses can be larger, up to 500 t in certain cases (for example, the 200 m 3 boulder
observed at Aigueblanche).
Figure 4.12 gives the absorbable energy for various types of structures, by
increasing capacities:
- rigid barriers of metallic pillars and wooden cross beams (25 to 50 kJ);
