Getting to Miramar
The best way to get from Vedado to Miramar is to simply hail a taxi traveling west-
ward along Linea. Ask the driver if he is going to Avenida Tercera (Avenida 3ra),
which means 3rd Avenue. This is the main taxi route in Miramar. Avenida 3ra is
the main road passing by all the large coastal hotels and most of the popular at-
tractions in the area. The taxis following this route will continue until about 140th
Avenue, which is near the end of the Miramar neighborhood. At this point, they
will usually turn back east, and start their route again. If you want to use a taxi
particular to get from Vedado to the coastal hotels of Miramar or to any of the at-
tractions in this area, this is the route you must take. If you have a particular des-
tination in mind, it is always a good idea to tell the driver in advance. In most
cases, he will be able to modify his route in order to drop you off as close to your
destination as possible.
Getting to Playa, Marianao or La Lisa
From Vedado, if you want to get to the neighborhoods of Playa , Marianao or La
Lisa , you have two options. You can either take a taxi traveling west on Linea or
Calle 23. Although both routes are slightly different, they both end in the same
place (La Lisa). In order to get to these suburbs, simply hail a taxi traveling west
on Linea or Calle 23 and tell the driver which neighborhood you want to go to.
The taxi driver will either say yes and stop, or say no and keep driving.
The Linea route runs from Linea Street in Vedado, through the Linea tunnel. It
then runs along Ave. 31 (in Playa), then Ave. 41 (in Marianao) and finally Ave. 51
(in La Lisa).
The Calle 23 route is similar. It runs along Calle 23, over the Puente Almendares.
It then follows Ave. 41 before merging briefly into Ave. 31, and then making its
way to Ave. 51.
Returning from the suburbs
Returning to Havana is very easy. From Playa, Marianao or La Lisa, simply hail a
taxi traveling east along one of the main roads (31, 41 or 51) and tell the driver
your destination. To get to Vedado, you can either say Linea or Calle 23. For Cen-
tral or Old Havana, simply say El Capitolio .
If you are in Miramar, simply go to Ave. 3ra or Ave. 7ma (7th Avenue). Most taxis
traveling east on these streets will go into Vedado, traveling along Linea Street.
