Many people don't realize that gobo is burdock and eat it with relish in Asian res-
taurants thinking it's some unobtainable exotic ingredient. Actually, burdock is so easy
to grow in the United States that it grows wild almost everywhere. Burdock is not nat-
ive to North America, though like many other immigrants, it has thrived here. It was
introduced by the early settlers and is also known as edible burdock.
Appearance
Burdock looks very much like the wild burdock that grows in much of the United States.
It's a tall plant, growing up to 8 feet under ideal conditions. The flowers are purple and
