world. In this sense, we can conclude that Cluster 2 countries have an ad-
vantageous competitive position compared to Cluster 1 countries.
COMPARISON OF COUNTRIES' PERFORMANCE FOR T&T
INDEX
To make it more meaningful for readers to understand the performance
of each country comparatively, we summarized the Silk Road countries'
global rankings for all the pillars in Table 7. In the table, we presented the
top three performing countries in a shaded framework for ease of under-
standing.
Table 7 shows the rankings of Cluster 1 and Cluster 2 countries for
14 pillars of the T&T Competitiveness Index. Overall, it can be inferred
from the table that Cluster 2 countries exhibited a better performance com-
pared to Cluster 1 countries (please see the dotted areas for each cluster).
Specifically, Japan in Cluster 2 performed the best in 8 out of 14 pillars,
which are environmental sustainability, safety and security, air transport
infrastructure, ground transport infrastructure, ICT infrastructure, human
resources, natural resources, and cultural resources. Out of these 8 pillars,
Japan's competitiveness depends mainly on ground transport infrastruc-
ture (rank: 6), cultural resources (rank: 12), safety and security (rank: 19),
air transport infrastructure (rank: 22), and human resources (rank: 13).
