In-Depth Information
Doppi are the hats that people wear to mark their status and place in
society. They have been used for centuries in the region. “Doppi”s motifs
differ from city to city. They are produced by embroidery of silk motifs on
single color cloth. The motif of “Kuskandı” is one of the oldest that is still
used today. It means grace, happiness and sovereignty. Kids “Doppi”s are
decorated with bird feathers, and women's are made with flower motifs
(Fig. 16).

“Ikat” dress robes were worn for centuries as a fundamental part of
the Uzbek culture. These robes bear motifs and colors that are similar to
the works of futurist painters. Colors used are very vibrant. In this respect
“Ikat”s robes look like contemporary art made hundreds of years ago.
They have been the choice of executives and the wealthy elite. Due to their
high value they were used as the most prestigious gift. Also they were used
to pay for taxes or services of great importance. In some instances “Ikad”s
were valued higher than gold (Çetinkaya, 2007), (Fig. 17).
