Adji Kui, Taip; Iron Age sites are Yaz Depe, Gobekli Depe and Tahirbash
Tepe (UNESCO WHC Document, 1998).
GONUR DEPE AND TOGOLOK DEPE 21
Gonur Depe, approximately 100 km away from Bayramali city, is found
at the old fork in the mouth of the Murgab river (Fig. 6). Margush, with its
history dating back to 3000-2000 B.C. Bronze Age, is thought to be the
first Merv settlement, and points to a rising civilization of its time, with
living and crafting areas, monarch castles, king necropoli, temples for fire
altars and complex city fabric (Sarianidi, 2005).

Another settlement belonging to the Late Bronz Age, known as To-
goloktepe 21 and Togolok 21 was found to the south-west of Gonur Depe.
Out of the excavated mound, a square shaped building which was fortified
and is believed to be a fire temple was unearthed.
ERK KALA
This city, dating back to the 6th century B.C., was built during the Ahame-
nids period and houses a palace, a temple, and civil architectural samples
inside its oval shaped high walls.
