HANDCRAFTS AND APPLIED ARTS IN KHIVA
In Khiva, just like in Khorezm area, one of the most important traditional
handcrafts is jewelry making (Figs. 20 and 21). In the Khorezm jewelry,
made by Karalpak Turks and Turkmens, the materials used are silver, coral,
turqoise and colored glass; and the figures used are stylized double-headed
eagle and human figures, diamond shaped leaves and keys symbolizing
the doors opening to heaven (Uzbekistan, 1997).
