(Aslanapa, 1996). The madrassah, which had a library built inside that did
not survive to present day, is now being used as a museum presenting the
theme “Health in Khorezm” (Prochazka, 1990).
MUHAMMAD AMIN KHAN MADRASSAH
Built in the second half of the XIXth century by Muhammad Amin Khan
(1845-1855), this madrassah consists of four iwans, 38x38 m in size. The
courtyard is surrounded by 99 cells, and a high portal (Fig. 13). With its
capacity of 250 students and a covered area of 72x60 m, it is the biggest
madrassah in the city, housing one summer and winter mosques, thought
to be used for education purposes. Unfortunately, despite the warnings
from UNESCO, it is being used as a hotel today.
