Bell Peppers: Introduction
Scientific name of Bell pepper is Capsicum annum. The edible portion of the plant is its pod
shapedfruit. It is a popular exotic vegetable used in many continental food preparations. It is
a coolseason vegetable. Bell pepper is also known as sweet pepper and capsicum. Bell pep-
per can be grownboth as an open field crop and as a protected greenhouse crop. Under open
field conditions,bell pepper is grown in hills during summers and during winters in plains.
Under protectedconditions, bell pepper can be grown throughout the year.

Green and red bell peppers, yellow bell peppers, orange bell peppers, white bell peppers,
purple bell peppers etc. are different varieties of bell peppers.

Green bell peppers: bitter and pungent
Red bell peppers: ripened green bell peppers and
sweetest and less pungent of all bell pepper varieties

Bell Peppers and White bell peppers
Pungency is less than and sweetness is more than
that of green bell peppers
