Typical chromatograms obtained from a sample of northern Ontario stream water are
shown in Fig. 12.11 (500mm column). It is evident from these illustrations that no
advantage is gained by using the 500mm column rather than the 250mm column. The
time for analysis is more than doubled and peak heights have decreased. The increased
separation of anion chromatographic peaks is not required for this sample type.
V an Os et al. [ 11] achieved complete separations in 6min of 1-30mg L −1
concentrations of bromide, chloride, nitrite, nitrate and sulphate using a Zipax SAX
separation column, with eluant suppression and electrical conductivity detection. The
