phosphate and sulphate do not show appreciable absorption above 190nm. Chloride
absorbs weakly in the ultraviolet region below 200nm. Note that non-absorbing anions
are sometimes observed by the ultraviolet detector as negative peaks, as is shown in Fig.
12.1(b) for phosphate. Table 12.1 contains a more extensive list of ultraviolet active
