Tipping
When we first came to Cambodia, we were told it was not customary to tip. However, I dis-
covered differently after going to lunch with a group of Cambodian colleagues, when the
administrative assistant pulled out her wallet after the meal.
“People in my country don't have much money,” she said, as she dropped a couple of bills
on the table.
Since this gesture came from a young woman making less than $400 per month, we now
leaveatipwhereverwego.It'susuallyonlyadollarortwo,dependingontheamountofthe
bill (or you can just round up to the nearest dollar).
Tipping is also considerate when getting a massage or other beauty service, as well as any
otherplacewhereaservicehasbeenrendered(suchasdeliveryofgasorfoodtoyourhome,
tour guides, and hotel staff).
