What To Do When You First Arrive
The first thing to do when moving to Cambodia (or even before you arrive), is to join the
Cambodian Parents' Network Yahoo group, which you can find online at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cambodiaparentnetwork. You don't have to be a parent, as
it's a Cambodian-based expat community online with more than 3,000 members and will be
your biggest help in learning about anything and everything going on around town: places
to rent, where to buy things, questions on health issues, updates on holiday spots, jobs or
internships, and much more. It's the only place where you'll see people asking for pony-
shaped cake moulds and honey baked hams, as well as advice on what to do if you get into
a car accident or need healthcare for your cat.
During the time I've lived in Phnom Penh, through postings on CPN, I've joined a newly-
formed book club as well as a film group. I've taken an Apsara dance class and bought a
used computer as well as posted my own queries about places to get a couch cleaned and
what's going on around town for Christmas. It's like having your own personal guide who
