Pros & Cons
It takes a certain type of person to live in Cambodia.
While the country is beautiful and the people are wonderful, it's not a country to live in if
youneedalotofcreaturecomforts.You'llfindexcellentcuisineinelegantsurroundingsand
be able to lounge next to swimming pools overlooking the Mekong if that's your desire, but
that's not the real Cambodia.
Cambodia is still very much a third-world country - and it is evident everywhere. Sidewalks
are broken up, corruption is blatant, and there's not a great deal of culture of the western
variety. The weather is hot year-round, it's dusty and smelly in parts, and you'll see rats
in the street. Newspapers are filled with stories about poor people being evicted from their
land, girls being trafficked for sex, and garment factories exploiting their workers.
It's called the Wild Wild East for a reason.
