What's In Your Closet?
My closet contains hardly anything heavier than a long-sleeved top (for those air-condi-
tioned spots or an occasional evening when the temperature falls below 75 degrees).
We were originally told by our volunteer organisation that we should dress conservatively -
closed-toed shoes, no short skirts or revealing tops, and never to wear shorts in the office.
But after living here for a few months, we discovered that it's fine to wear sandals and even
niceflip-flopstowork,andthatclothingisn'tasconservativeforwesternersasitisforCam-
bodians.
If you're working in a corporate environment, you may want to dress smartly, but attire is
mostly casual wherever you go.
Several years ago, Cambodia was extremely conservative and westerners were frowned on
for wearing revealing tops or skirts. Nowadays, however, it's quite permissible for a woman
