It's a good idea to check that your doctor has been trained overseas, as medical degrees in
Cambodia are mostly inferior to those obtained in other countries.
Though the cost of doctor appointments is lower than in the west (SOS Clinic charges $68
- 85 for an appointment with a western doctor and $47 - 59 for a Cambodian doctor), it is
always advisable to have medical insurance, particularly one which includes evacuation in
case you need to be transported to Bangkok or Singapore (see

ical evacuation flight from Phnom Penh to Bangkok can cost $10,000-US$20,000 and will
require payment up front. Serious medical problems without insurance can cost thousands
of dollars at a good facility.
In order to take precautions and avoid medical facilities altogether, it's advisable to have a
supply of hand sanitizer and to be vigilant about what you eat and drink. Peel your own
