In-Depth Information
A typical Cambodian meal consists of three or four courses and generally includes soup
( samlor). You'll usually find dishes of peanuts sprinkled with salt (and sometimes sugar)
on the tables in Cambodian restaurants as well as the signature bowls of fresh chillies, soy
sauce, and pickled spicy vegetables.
In big cities, you'll find a number of upscale Cambodian restaurants (some of which even
offer tarantula on the menu), but in the villages and small towns you'll be hard pressed to
findanythingthatresembleswesternfood(althoughyou'llgenerallyfindeggsandtheubi-
quitous French fries).
You will, however, find an interesting array of snack foods, including deep-fried crickets,
fertilised duck eggs (with the embryo inside), snakes on skewers, and termites.
