Creating a Counter Log Using the List of Performance Counters
Performance Monitor provides a counter log facility to save the performance data of multiple counters over a period
of time. You can view the saved counter log using Performance Monitor to analyze the performance data. It is usually
convenient to create a counter log from a defined list of performance counters. Simply collecting the data rather
than viewing it through the GUI is the preferred method of automation to prepare for troubleshooting your server's
performance or establishing a baseline.
Within Performance Monitor, expand Data Collector Sets User Defined. Right-click and select New Data
Collector Set. Define the name of the set and make this a manual creation by clicking the appropriate radio button;
then click Next just like I configured Figure 5-3 :

You'll have to define what type of data you're collecting. In this case, select the check box Performance Counters
under the Create Data Logs radio button and then click Next as shown in Figure 5-4 :
