In Figure 3-2 , you can see that a single filegroup is created by default with AdventureWorks2012. You can add
multiple files to multiple filegroups distributed across multiple I/O paths so that work can be done in parallel across
the groups and distributed storage after you also move your database objects into those different groups, literally
putting multiple spindles and multiple I/O paths to work. But, simply throwing lots of files, even on different disks,
through a single disk controller may result in worse performance, not better.
You can add a data file to a filegroup in the Database Properties dialog box in the Files window by selecting from
the drop-down list, as shown in Figure 3-3 .
