4. Times Square and Broadway
Times Square
As one of the most recognizable destinations in New York City, Times Square is the brightly
lit center of the Broadway Theatre district, a large commercial and retail zone, and also has
a well-earned reputation for being one of the bustiest pedestrian intersections in the world.
Research has concluded that this lively area is actually the most frequently visited tourist at-
traction across the globe, with an estimated 39 million guests walking its streets and taking
in the sights every year.
The intersection was originally known as Longacre Square, but was renamed in 1904 when
the New York Times newspaper relocated to the Times Building. This site, now referred to
as 'One Times Square', plays a prominent role in movies, soap operas and theatre as well.
