and the online open-source hardware community. The “Polar Bear” Open-source Environ-
mental Chamber obtained its name from the distinctive polar bear ultrasonic humidiier, 28
which is used to increase humidity when necessary within the chamber as seen in Figure
4.4(a) . The complete wiring diagram is shown in Figure 4.4(b) along with the pin map of
the Arduino Mega 2560 in Figure 4.4(c) , which is the brain of the Polar Bear Chamber [ 1 ] . If
you are inexperienced in electronics, do not be intimidated by this diagram, pin map or the
spagheti-bowl of wires in the picture. The system may appear extremely complex, and it is,
but in the Wiring Diagrams subsection, we will walk through how to wire each individual
component separately along with their function. In this way, you will gain a complete under-
standing of the system, while at the same time cuting through the complexity. Figure 4.4(b)
and (c) is meant primarily as a reference as you build to double check that you have attached
all the components correctly.
