If a "model" of the set of markers used was pre-
established, the markers are automatically identified;
otherwise, the operator must previously identify each
marker on a given image. Then, interpolation algorithms
help deal with possible occlusions (when a limb hides a
marker from one or several cameras) and may correct certain
parts of the trajectories in case of swapping (confusion or
accidental
exchange
during
the
identification
of
two
markers, whose trajectories cross, for example).
Following this overview of the experimental methods at
our disposal, describing the movements of each joint using
measured data, also called joint kinematics, will be the focus
of the next chapter.
