in the public sector is declining, and this is partly due to the
controversial nature of GMOs. If another decade passes and
no harm from GM foods is proven, opposition by food activ-
ists will either wane or become irrelevant to the rest of society.
Then perhaps biotechnology can accomplish social goals like a
cleaner environment and disease prevention. In the meantime,
though, the controversy becomes more acrimonious every day.
