RESOURCE GUIDE
This section first lists telephone numbers that are important to
have handy in case of emergencies. Two-digit numbers may be
dialled without charge, while those starting with 01 are charged
as local calls. Numbers that start with 08.00 are also free. Others
that start with 08 (08.92, for instance) or those that have only
four- or six-digit numbers (such as for SNCF or France Télécom)
incur a number of centimes per minute—the cost per minute
is announced at the beginning of the connection.
For information on activities in Paris, go to the Paris Tourist
Offi ce or access its website, which has extensive information
on all facets of Paris life. The mairie (town hall) of your
arrondissement , or the Hôtel de Ville (City Hall), should have
brochures for residents that describe the services, programmes
and even sports facilities sponsored by the city. See below for
detailed information.
At the end of this chapter are some well-known networking
resources in Paris, for both professional and social contacts.
