must register and take French lessons during
their contract.
Au pairs
generally take care of children in exchange for
room and board, sometimes with a slight stipend. Other
options exist, such as receiving room and board in exchange
for light housework.
Au pairs
must be unmarried and between
the ages of 18-30. The contract cannot exceed 18 months.

Is It Really For You?
Think carefully before accepting an
au pair
position. The work,
which consists of taking care of children full-time, usually includes
some housework as well, and days off are few. Although it is
an economical way to live in Paris, such a position may not
correspond to the experience of living in Paris you had in mind
before coming.
