British citizens should consult the job centre website
(http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk) and click on Partners.
Also contact the Franco-British Chamber of Commerce in
Paris, which maintains a job file (see page 307).
Fully fledged British citizens may work without restriction
in France, but this may not apply to Commonwealth citizens
with UK residency rights. France deals with foreigners purely
on the basis of their citizenship and not their residency, so
such citizens may need to fulfil the requirements of their
home country.
WORK PERMITS FOR NON-EU CITIZENS
Non-EU citizens will find it almost impossible to obtain a
permanent work permit or to find a position just by looking.
Nonetheless, you may inquire about procedures and
requirements for temporary permits at the Agence Nationale
de l'Accueil des Etrangers et des Migrations (ANAEM) at 48
rue de la Roquette, 75001 (tel: 01.55.28.19.40), or at the
Main d'Oeuvre Etrangère (MOE), a division of the Direction
Départmentale du Travail et de l'Emploi at 127 boulevard
de la Villette, 75010 (tel: 01.44.84.42.86).
If you are transferred to France by a non-French
company, you must have the autorisation provisoire de
travail (temporary work permit), which is valid for the
duration of the mission (no more than one year) and should
have the same length of validity as the carte de séjour . This
permit is renewable. Your company should fulfil most of
the bureaucratic requirements and provide information and
advice for settling in.
Sometimes a French corporation will hire a foreign
executive or highly qualified technician. It must apply to the
MOE as mentioned above, which issues the right to work.
Once this is issued, the request goes to the ANAEM, which
then sends it to the French consulate near the home of the
potential employee. Only then does the visa process start. The
consulate will request the submission of a dossier to apply for
a carte de long séjour , which includes a medical exam. This
