Catalogue Shopping
Catalogue shopping is increasingly popular and companies
such as La Redoute (http://www.laredoute.fr), which also has
shops in Paris, and 3Suisses distribute thick catalogues which
are eagerly pored over by many. Prices are generally fair,
returns are accepted (with the appropriate paperwork), and
occasionally there are special sales.
International catalogue companies will ship to France.
Duty on merchandise imported from outside the EU can be
high, so check to see whether the company has an online
service within the EU, where shipping between countries
does not entail duty fees. For instance, at Lands' End in the
UK (http://www.landsend.co.uk), prices may be higher than
in the United States, but since there is no duty charged for
shipment to France and postage is at domestic rates, the
price you ultimately pay may be similar, depending on the
amount of your order .
Flea Markets
Inexpensive clothes can be found at some of the city's flea
markets. See page 282, Products and Services, for a list of
the city's best flea markets.
Children's Clothes
All department stores carry a variety of children's clothes;
some dépôts-ventes selling children's clothes.
Du Pareil au Même, Jacadi and Natalys are French chains
for children's clothing, and Le Petit Bateau, with several stores,
sells colourful, comfortable and reasonably priced items. The
international chains Benetton, Baby Gap and Gap Kids also
have shops throughout the city. See Paris Pas Cher for well-
priced children's clothes.
For traditionally French elegant clothes, the stylish Bonpoint
is at 15 rue Royale (tel: 01.45.66.52.40; http://www.bonpoint.
fr), and for the more fashionable, try Tartine et Chocolat at
