In-Depth Information
aristocratic rue de Passy, both known for their upmarket
flavour.
On the Left Bank, shops on boulevard Saint-Germain and
along rue de Rennes are increasingly fashionable. Some
international top designers have opened their own boutiques
to the dismay of the longtime residents who would like to
keep the village atmosphere of the area intact—they won't
succeed. Nearby but slightly out of the tourist scene, streets
around place Saint-Sulpice, rue de Grenelle and rue de Sèvres
are lined with boutiques of all categories and prices, from
established and upcoming designers down to the most basic
shops—they just take exploring to find.
Inexpensive shops can be found throughout the city. The
department store Tati (see page 267) always has interesting
merchandise—if you can ferret it out, and the streets around
place de la République and the huge Paris garment district
at Sentier and Place du Caire are good places to look for
bargains. For shops that are deemed good value for money,
including discount shops, see the guidebook Paris Pas Cher.
