The main indoor public arena is the Palais Omnisports Paris-
Bercy at 8 boulevard de Bercy, 75012. It holds football, tennis
and volleyball matches; ice-skating competitions; equestrian
events and rock concerts. The Parc des Princes, located at the
southern tip of the Bois de Boulogne, at 24 rue Commandant-
Guilbaud, 75016, is a 50,000-seat stadium where football
(soccer to Americans) and rugby games are played, as well as
the French Open at Roland Garros. Then, there is the 80,000-
seat Grande Stade de France, constructed in the late 1990s just
beyond the northern edge of the city in Saint-Denis, where the
finals of the World Cup matches in 1998 were held. In addition
to sports matches, it currently hosts large musical events. The
stadium is easily reached by RER and métro .
Like most Europeans, the French are avid football fans.
The football season runs from the end of July to the following
April. The Paris team is Paris Saint-Germain (http://www.
psg.fr), which plays at Parc des Princes. Season tickets are
available and single tickets may be purchased online, at the
stadium or at ticket agencies. Buy tickets well in advance, for
the important matches sell out early.
