The Markets
Shopping at the marché (food market) is one of the most
pleasant aspects of French life. Vendors sell fish, meat
and the freshest vegetables, and quality is generally high.

and permanent. They are open daily, except on Monday.
Generally, they close for lunch, open again around 4:00 in
the afternoon and close around 7:00 pm. Covered markets
usually have only food items and flowers. Not all markets
are equal in their range of merchandise, quality or price.
These market buildings can be quite charming, depending
on their age and upkeep.
Remember that it is usually the commerçant ( vendor)
who selects the produce, and vendors do not take kindly to
