In-Depth Information
alcohol, and some daytime cafés are popular bars by
night, serving drinks and simple meals until the wee
hours. People go to their favourite bars at all times of the
day: for a quick jolt of coffee in the mornings, for a simple
lunch, for an apéritif before the theatre or drink after,
or just to relax with a fruit juice in the afternoons. The
'happy hour' has become popular in early evening. Some
bars have pleasant terraces, others are known for their
music, and some are just popular as hangouts. Although
there are trendy bars throughout the city, it is a local bar
in your neighbourhood that will lure you in—and keep
you coming back.
As for fruit juices, if you order an orange juice, you will
most likely get something in a can; order, instead, an orange
pressée or a citron pressé (lemonade) for a freshly squeezed
drink served with a carafe of water to adjust the strength
as you like. Cafés and bars are required to post their prices
( tarifs de consommation ) and distinguish between those for
service at the comptoir and at tables. See Bars, cafés in the
Yellow Pages .
