After-School Activities
Most of the international schools arrange some after-school
activities. In addition, active English-language scouting
and guides troops are open to children of all ages and
nationalities. Because troop leaders change, the most
reliable information is usually available at your particular
embassy and the international schools. For city-sponsored
after-school activities, ask at the mairie for Guide des
Loisirs . Le Guide du Sport à Paris is a comprehensive guide
to all sports activities and venues in the city. And of course,
both English-language and French bookshops sell guides
of activities for children when they're not in school.
ADAC (Association pour le Developpement et l'Animation
Culturelle), the public organisation for continuing
education organisation, offers a vast variety of courses for
children at centres throughout Paris. ADAC also operates
ludothèques (games centres), which offer play-related
learning activities, and games and toys to play with
and to borrow. A nature-oriented bibliothèque (library)/
ludothèque can be found in the Bois de Vincennes at the
Pavillon Nature in the Parc Floral (tel: 01.43.28.47.73).
For information on ludothèques , call the Association des
Ludothèques Françaises at 7 impasse Chartière, Paris
75005; tel: 01.43.26.84.62. Or ask at your mairie , or access
the website (http://www.paris.fr).
Three centres d'animation (activity centres) offer
educational, sporting and cultural, activities and outings
to young people from 15-25 after school on Wednesdays,
Saturdays and during school vacations. See the municipal
sports guide for information, or the booklet Centres
d'Animation at the mairie .
