Otherwise, you might rent a furnished flat from a private
owner or through an agency. But be aware that laws regulating
this kind of rental are starting to be enforced, for the city is
concerned that foreigners are buying apartments just to rent
them out short-term and that Parisians do not have enough
access to affordable housing. How the enforcement will
take shape will take some time to be resolved. See FUSAC
for extensive listings or one of the agencies below. All have

Thinking about Apartments
As soon as you know your departure date and have at least
a temporary place to stay, start thinking about permanent
housing. If your company is sending you to Paris, discuss its
relocation procedures. On your own, plan to begin making
contacts well in advance of your departure. Three months in
advance is not too early to begin inquiries, to place or look at
ads, or to commit yourself with a deposit. If you plan to deal
with real estate agencies, you will need time and patience. Call
on weekdays, for many agencies are closed on weekends, and
in August both landlords and agents are away on holiday. If you
plan to commit to a short-term apartment before you arrive,
inquire about all amenities before you sign a contract, and if
possible, even ask someone you know in Paris to check it out.
