such as the exclusive fashion shows that take place twice a
year. It is best to make your reservations well in advance.
If, however, for some reason you arrive in Paris without a
reservation, you can go to the Paris Tourist Office at 25 rue
des Pyramides, 75001 (tel: 08.92.68.30.30; website: http://
www.parisinfo.com) or one of its branches and they will
find a hotel for you for the night, or you can book online.
(The main Tourist Office is open every day of the year
except on 1 May.)
The Indispensible FUSAC
France-USA Contacts , known by everyone as FUSAC , is a free
English-language, bi-weekly compendium of advertisements—
large and small—for anything you might need in Paris
(tel: 01.56.53.54.54; http://www.fusac.com). Everyone who needs
something, sometime, looks at FUSAC . From short- and long-
term housing to job openings of all sorts, from used furniture and
computer technicians to yoga studios and moving companies—
FUSAC has it all. Real estate agents who specialise in working
with international clients and have English-speaking personnel
advertise their services in FUSAC , as do relocation agencies. With
300 distribution points in Paris—in Anglophone bookshops,
stores, pubs and restaurants—it's not hard to find. To see its ads
online or to find a location near you, go to its website.
There are hundreds of hotels ranging from elegant and
exorbitant in price, to the basic and functional. They are rated
by stars, from luxurious five-star pampering establishments
down to the one-star hotel where you might have to share a
bath. All tourist guides have detailed descriptions of a range
of hotels, often arranged by neighourhood, which can be
helpful. The hotels' own websites are also useful; check
especially the Accor Hotels website (http://www.accorhotels.
com), which covers its Mercure, Sofitel, Novotel, Libertel and
Ibis hotels, all conveniently located around the city.
